oday's Bible Passage: Acts 4:1-22 Notice with me the power of the Gospel~ 1The priests and the captain of the temple guard and the Sadducees came up to Peter and John while they were speaking to the people.
9/24/2009 9:44:59 PM
Good Morning, dear friends. . . What entices you to read a book? The title? The author? Subject matter? Someone's recommendation? Personal growth? Because it is the sequel to a book you loved?
9/24/2009 9:43:57 PM
Do you need a LIFESAVER? Sometimes when my back is against the wall, and there seems to be no place to turn, I read stories of people with great faith in the Bible, and take comfort in seeing how the Lord cared for them--how He heard from Heaven, and met them. One of my very favorite is found in 2 Chronicles, chapter 20.
9/24/2009 9:42:41 PM
Well, Good Day. . . It took extreme courage on Paul's part to do what he believed was God's will for him. Perhaps all of the groundwork I have laid about surrender, trust, and wanting to know God's will for your life. . . all sounds good. . . intellectually. The problem comes in the doing, and sometimes in the 'not doing'. . . Well, Good Day. . .
9/24/2009 9:42:03 PM
Good Morning. So once again, they press Jesus to know if this would be the time He would set things straight in Israel--topple Rome's tyranny of the Jews, and set up His kingdom.
9/24/2009 9:40:52 PM
Good Morning. Forgiveness is God's invention for coming to terms with a world in which people are unfair to each other and hurt each other deeply. He began by forgiving us. And he invites us all to forgive each other. Lewis B. Smedes
9/24/2009 9:38:31 PM
Good Morning. We leave our index finger on the page of Acts 2 to consider an important footnote. In yesterday's Morning Briefing, the Holy Spirit descended to rest upon and take residence within the Jewish Christians gathered together in Jerusalem. In obedience to Jesus, they had stayed together, waiting and praying for this gift that Jesus had promised--the Holy Spirit, third person of the Trinity.
9/24/2009 9:37:19 PM
Good Morning. "What is the deal with tongues?" is a question I have been asked a number of times; perhaps as a way of describing the spiritual gift of speaking in tongues, I will tell you about my exposure and experience with this gift.
9/24/2009 9:24:04 PM
Good Day~ Just before I completely close out Acts, I want to camp a little longer on the subject of worship, because it has everything to do with our being Acts 29, (28 chapters in Acts; you and I are writing ch. 29 in the world today)
9/22/2009 11:06:52 PM
Good Morning~ Another look at these verses--Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: "Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a cripple and are asked how he was healed, then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed.
9/22/2009 11:00:43 PM
Keeping our bookmarks in Acts 17, I want to explore this trait of Paul's that caused him to be so courageous--it seems like it was part character trait, part devotion, and part faith--it was his undying trust in Jesus Christ.
9/22/2009 10:59:08 PM
Hello! About ten years ago, I was at a crossroads in my personal life, and wanted to know God's will for me--particularly as it related to serving Him in ministry. I had been told about a book, Experiencing God, and so I carefully read it, its Scriptural support, and interviewed myself with its questions. I return to it as my solid resource on ascertaining the will of God in my life. Here is what the author says about knowing the will of God;
9/22/2009 5:25:46 PM
Good Day! Did you have a chance to read about the gift of encouragement yesterday? It is the gift that keeps on giving, you know. . .
9/22/2009 5:24:38 PM
Good Day~ 1. Pray that the truth and inspiration of God's Word will be revealed for you from this passage . . . 2. Read the passage 3. "What do you NOTICE?" Read it again, and highlight what strikes you 4. If it fits, pull it apart for application. Acts 18.23-19.7 After spending some time in Antioch, Paul set out from there and traveled from place to place throughout the region of Galatia and Phrygia, strengthening all the disciples.
9/22/2009 5:18:58 PM
Acts 21.40-22.21 Having received the commander's permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the crowd. When they were all silent, he said to them in Aramaic: 1"Brothers and fathers, listen now to my defense." When they heard him speak to them in Aramaic, they became very quiet. Then Paul said: "I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city.
9/22/2009 5:17:36 PM
THIS is good stuff. . . take a look with me: In Acts 22.24-31, Paul cleverly establishes that he is a Roman citizen, and he is brought before the Sanhedrin, (the Jewish ruling council) for trial~ Acts 23.1-10 - Paul looked straight at the Sanhedrin and said, "My brothers, I have fulfilled my duty to God in all good conscience to this day."
9/22/2009 5:16:47 PM
Happy Independence Day! Congratulations on your freedom. . . Acts chapter 20 begins Paul's movement toward Jerusalem. . . In verses 1 - 7 We see Paul's ministry team travel from Ephesus to Troas. Once in Troas, the believers gathered to break bread together, and then Paul preached to the people. . . going late into the night.
9/22/2009 5:15:52 PM
Acts 19.21-41 Afterward Paul felt compelled by the Spirit to go over to Macedonia and Achaia before going to Jerusalem. “And after that,” he said, “I must go on to Rome!” He sent his two assistants, Timothy and Erastus, ahead to Macedonia while he stayed awhile longer in the province of Asia. About that time, serious trouble developed in Ephesus concerning the Way.
9/22/2009 5:15:29 PM
Acts 19.8-20 8Paul entered the synagogue and spoke boldly there for three months, arguing persuasively about the kingdom of God. But some of them became obstinate; they refused to believe and publicly maligned the Way. So Paul left them. He took the disciples with him and had discussions daily in the lecture hall of Tyrannus.

Acts 18.1-23 Please open your Bible to read, or read from the New Living Translation -;&version=51;&interface=print The basic summary of this passage is that Paul goes from Athens to Corinth, a distance of about 50 miles, where he meets Priscilla and Aquila, who had been run out of Rome by Claudius.
9/22/2009 5:14:03 PM
Greetings! . . . More on Acts 17 - Paul's Visit to Athens Have you ever heard the word versus used as a verb? You probably have, if your kids played sports. . . They say something like, "Tomorrow, we're versing the Dodgers."
9/22/2009 5:12:31 PM
Acts 23.11-35 Verse 11 - The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, "Take courage!" As you have testified about Me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome."
9/22/2009 5:11:57 PM
My summary of Acts 17.1-15 - The young missions team of Paul, Silas and Timothy traveled further into Europe--to Amphipolis and Apollonia, and on to Thessalonica--the bustling capital city of Macedonia, with about 200,000 in population. Paul again started preaching in the synagogue where a number of folks responded to the gospel, which riled up some of the Jews who chose not to believe.
9/22/2009 5:11:25 PM
Acts 16.16-34 - Once when we were going to the place of prayer, we were met by a slave girl who had a spirit by which she predicted the future. She earned a great deal of money for her owners by fortune-telling.
9/22/2009 5:10:55 PM
Good Day! Yesterday, I commented that the missionary team of Paul, Silas, and Timothy headed into Europe with the gospel--let's look a little closer. . .
9/22/2009 5:10:11 PM
Acts 16.4-10 - Paul's second missionary journey ~ 4 As they went on their way through the cities, they delivered to them for observance the decisions that had been reached by the apostles and elders who were in Jerusalem.
9/22/2009 5:09:41 PM
Acts 15.1-35 v. 8 - God, who knows the heart, showed that He accepted them [the Gentiles] by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as He did to us [the Jews]
9/22/2009 5:09:04 PM
Good Morning~ Several of you wrote to tell me that the story of Jehoshaphat's faith, and how God rewarded it, was really encouraging for you--as YOU are 'in the battle'. Someone also commented quite astutely that it didn't really have anything to do with where we are in the book of Acts---well today, it will, as we finish Acts 14.
9/22/2009 5:05:40 PM
Acts 14.1-20 As I read today's passage over and over, I was struck by how fickle these people were. . .
9/22/2009 5:02:17 PM
PAUL'S SERMON WELL-RECEIVED. As Paul and Barnabas were leaving the synagogue, the people invited them to speak further about these things on the next Sabbath. When the congregation was dismissed, many of the Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, who talked with them and urged them to continue in the grace of God.
9/22/2009 5:00:47 PM
Good Morning. . . Today as we study the second half of Paul's sermon, I pray that God will make his Word come alive for all of us, so that it will become alive IN all of us~ Acts 13.26-43 (NIV). Scripture is in black; the words in blue are my prayerful thoughts about Paul's powerful message to God's people.
9/22/2009 4:58:19 PM
Greetings, Friends~ Today, we are blessed to read Paul's first recorded sermon--what a brilliant oratorical narrative it is for us to devour! Paul was masterful in relating to the Jews in the way they would receive it, using his intellectual style of evangelism.
9/22/2009 4:57:29 PM
Acts 13.1-12 Now there were in the church at Antioch prophets and teachers, Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, Manaen a member of the court of Herod the tetrarch, and Saul. While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.”
9/22/2009 4:54:49 PM
Acts 11:19-30   Meanwhile, the believers who had been scattered during the persecution after Stephen’s death traveled as far as Phoenicia, Cyprus, and Antioch of Syria. They preached the word of God, but only to Jews. However, some of the believers who went to Antioch from Cyprus and Cyrene began preaching to the Gentiles about the Lord Jesus.
9/22/2009 4:54:03 PM
Today's passage - Acts 24.1-21 - Five days later the high priest Ananias went down to Caesarea with some of the elders and a lawyer named Tertullus, and they brought their charges against Paul before the governor. When Paul was called in, Tertullus presented his case before Felix: "We have enjoyed a long period of peace under you, and your foresight has brought about reforms in this nation.
9/22/2009 4:52:44 PM
Acts 24.22-27 - Then Felix, who was well acquainted with the Way, adjourned the proceedings. ? "When Lysias the commander comes," he said, "I will decide your case."? He ordered the centurion to keep Paul under guard but to give him some freedom and permit his friends to take care of his needs. Several days later Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was a Jewess.
9/22/2009 4:52:13 PM
Acts 25.1-21 ~ Three days after arriving in the province, Festus went up from Caesarea to Jerusalem, where the chief priests and Jewish leaders appeared before him and presented the charges against Paul. They urgently requested Festus, as a favor to them, to have Paul transferred to Jerusalem, for they were preparing an ambush to kill him along the way.
9/22/2009 4:51:33 PM
Hello, Dear Friends. I want to pause where we are, here in Acts 25. . . my heart and mind are full with concern for some loved ones who are in the throes of tremendous struggle. . . creditors are closing in, family members seem lost, jobs are needed, the "c" word has come from the doctor. . . and the list goes on.
9/22/2009 4:50:45 PM
Acts 25. 23 - The next day Agrippa and Bernice came with great pomp and entered the audience room with the high ranking officers and the leading men of the city. At the command of Festus, Paul was brought in.
9/22/2009 4:49:46 PM
Acts 27.1-28.10;&version=51;&interface=print 'Tis the story of Paul's voyage(s) en route to Rome. . . What could be Luke's purpose in writing in such detail about Paul's tumultuous journey?
9/22/2009 4:47:28 PM
Greetings! Yesterday we talked about the 'perfect storm'--the storms of life that God can use to shape and grow us. . . we looked at the storms that rocked Paul's ship and eventually wrecked it. Through it all, Paul trusted God. . . How?! Partly because an angel of the Lord spoke to Paul, (Acts 27.23,24), and told him the travelers would all get to Rome alive.
9/22/2009 4:43:54 PM
'Some random thoughts floating around, but all surround two symbols--the anchor and the lifesaver. Please reread Acts 27.27-44 -- the amazing story of Paul's third shipwreck. As the broken ship goes down, we find the men grabbing whatever they can--FLOTSAM, pieces of the ship floating by--to make it to shore.
9/22/2009 4:43:17 PM
Acts 28.16-30;&version=31; - Paul arrives in Rome~ Good Day~ Have you ever been in "a moment' and you have this sense that THIS, THIS VERY MOMENT is sacred, and you don't want it to end? Then, you have a taste of the passion of the early believers.
9/22/2009 4:33:47 PM
Acts 28.11-31 As we close the door on Acts. . . The Scripture - Paul arrives in Rome. . . his desired destination. He plans to put out from there to take the gospel into Spain, and further into Europe.
9/22/2009 4:31:25 PM
Acts 1.9-10 After He said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. "Men of Galilee," they said, "why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven."
9/22/2009 3:18:18 PM
Acts 1:15-26 In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, "Brothers, the Scripture had to be fulfilled which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through the mouth of David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus— he was one of our number and shared in this ministry."
9/22/2009 3:16:56 PM
Good Morning. Wow! This is a powerful passage. . . "Lord, open our hearts and minds to understand Your Word this day. Amen" Acts 2.1-13 - When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
9/22/2009 3:15:05 PM
Good Morning. May I direct our attention back to Acts 2? Go ahead--picture the 120 gathered together, and filled with the Spirit--they begin to speak in unknown languages--unknown to them but not to the Jewish pilgrims who had traveled to Jerusalem to observe Pentecost.
9/22/2009 3:14:18 PM
Acts 2.42-47 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, and to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
9/22/2009 3:13:11 PM
Acts 3.1-10 Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a man lame from birth was being carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms.
9/22/2009 3:12:33 PM
Our Bible passage today is Acts 3.11-26 - Please read it in your Bible or click on Good Morning. Did you see it? Did you see it again in today's passage? Peter trying to set the record straight. Last time, he was saying, 'No, these people are not drunk--they are filled with the Holy Spirit! Listen to them. . .
9/22/2009 3:10:10 PM
Acts 4:23-31 On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "you made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them.
9/22/2009 3:09:32 PM
Acts 4:32-35 All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had. With great power the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Jesus, and much grace was upon them all. There were no needy persons among them. For from time to time those who owned lands or houses sold them, brought the money from the sales and put it at the apostles' feet, and it was distributed to anyone as he had need.
