9/24/2009 11:30:49 PM
And so Jesus departs from the Upper Room. . . and begins the quiet march toward His arrest. He returns again this night to the Mount of Olives, and stops in the garden that we hold so dear, the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed to His Father, about the agony that was soon to come upon Him. . . Luke 22.39-46 -
9/24/2009 11:10:49 PM
Luke 2.10 ~ I bring you good tidings of great joy. . . today. . . a Savior!! Christmas Greetings to you, dear friend~ I bring you good tidings of great joy this morning, from Jesus-- Dear child, maybe now that your preparations are through, you can make some quiet to be with Me.
9/24/2009 11:10:19 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 2.1-20 Good Morning. Last year as I prepared a message for our annual Christmas brunch, I casually said to Dylan on the way to school one day, "What do you think I should talk about?"
9/24/2009 11:09:47 PM
What shall we say, then?       Here are the last several verses of Luke, the only gospel written by a Gentile-- He [Jesus] said to them, "This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about Me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms."
9/24/2009 11:09:26 PM
Good Morning -  Please take a look at these excerpts from yesterday's briefing--inklings of the nature of Jesus' resurrected body--what do we learn here about what His body was like?
9/24/2009 11:08:08 PM
Good Morning. Who else did Jesus see after He had thrown off His burial clothes?   from Luke 24~    Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaeus, about seven miles from Jerusalem.
9/24/2009 11:07:45 PM
It is true. . . He is alive! When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.  Mary stood outside the tomb crying.
9/24/2009 11:07:06 PM
HE IS RISEN!!  Correlating the four gospel accounts gives us the bigger picture for the events on that Sunday so long ago. . . Take a look with me as we consider what happened~ There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it.
9/24/2009 11:06:41 PM
Good Morning.   Finally, the procession reached the top of Mount Calvary--Jesus and two criminals are to be crucified.  While I wish to be accurate in the depiction of the crucifixion, I do not want to wax long on exactly what happens to the body as each painful hour drags by before death by crucifixion occurs. . . it is horrific.
9/24/2009 11:06:08 PM
Good Morning, Lord~ I sat down to pen a prayer to You, so moved by all You experienced--well, that is, all that is recorded that You experienced. These are the thoughts that flowed out in ink. . .
9/24/2009 11:05:38 PM
And as they led Him away, they seized one Simon of Cyrene, who was coming in from the country and laid on him the cross to carry it behind Jesus.  And there followed Him a great multitude of the people and of women who were mourning and lamenting for Him.
9/24/2009 11:05:12 PM
Pilate delivers Jesus to be crucified~   But they all cried out together, "Away with this Man, and release to us Barabbas"--a man who had been thrown into prison for an insurrection started in the city and for murder.
9/24/2009 11:03:41 PM
Good Morning. We left Jesus standing before the Sanhedrin, with Caiaphas saying, 'we don't need any more witnesses--we heard all we need to hear,' planning to send Jesus to Pilate, governor of Judah~
9/24/2009 11:00:50 PM
Today's passage ~ The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking him and beating him.  They blindfolded him and demanded, "Prophesy!  Who hit you?"  And they said many other insulting things to him.  At daybreak the council of the elders of the people, both chief priests and teachers of the law, met together, and Jesus was led before them.
9/24/2009 10:59:21 PM
Good Morning! Look back over your shoulder and see where we have been on this journey. . . you should have dust on your knapsack, and dirty feet too, considering how far we have come.
9/24/2009 10:25:44 PM
Verse to consider - Matthew 26.41 - "Keep watch and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.  For the spirit is willing, but the body is weak." - NLT       Keep watching and praying that you may not enter into temptation. . . New American Standard
9/24/2009 10:25:06 PM
And so Jesus departs from the Upper Room. . . and begins the quiet march toward His arrest.  He returns again this night to the Mount of Olives,   and stops in the garden that we hold so dear, the Garden of Gethsemane, where He prayed to His Father, about the agony that was soon to  come upon Him. . .  Luke 22.39-46 -
9/24/2009 10:23:31 PM
Isn't it ironic. . . An old man turned ninety-eight     He won the lottery and died the next day         It's a black fly in your Chardonnay       It's a death row pardon two minutes too late And isn't it ironic?
9/24/2009 10:22:59 PM
Good Morning. As I was reading over the text for our Morning Briefing, (most of Luke chapter 21), I knew it was another big 'nut' to crack. . . and I was okay with that, but 'you know what?
9/24/2009 10:22:16 PM
Be aware, my dear friends, as you are standing on holy ground; by the end of this chapter, Jesus will have arrived in Jerusalem. . .  the beginning of the end and the beginning of so much more.
9/24/2009 10:21:30 PM
temple to pray."  Jesus paints the picture of both men, going there to pray, but coming with very different viewpoints--one looking up, one looking down. . .
9/24/2009 10:20:58 PM
Please read Luke chapter 18, verses 1 - 8 Will  not  God  bring  about  justice  for  his  chosen  ones,          who cry out to him day and night?   vs.7,  NIV Good Morning. Are you a good finisher?  I   am   not. . . at least, I didn't used to be.
9/24/2009 10:20:28 PM
Please read Luke chapter 17, verses 20 - 37.    THIS is an interesting one. . . Good Morning. I am not a fan of EXPECTATIONS. . . they set us up to bring us down. . . often.  'So, Jesus-- tell us, when will the kingdom of God come?'
9/24/2009 10:16:52 PM
Good Morning.        Four (4) instructional lessons in 10 short verses. . . let's do some fishing. print it out - spend some time with it...  make some direct application. why wouldn't you?
9/24/2009 10:00:41 PM
Please!  Open your Bibles and read Luke 16.1-13~  One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much  >>Someone told me yesterday that he had not understood that he is first to read the passage from the Bible,  and then 'think on these things' below; there is supernatural power in the Word of God.  Do not sell it short, and do not miss out reading from your Bible.
9/24/2009 10:00:14 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 15.11-32 'his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son,    threw his arms around him and kissed him.'  Luke 15.20 Good Evening. . . and Good Morning. I am writing this in the evening, thinking of several of you specifically right now.  I wish I could transport each of you to a distraction-free zone for oh, I don't know, how about 15 minutes?
9/24/2009 9:59:02 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 15.1-10 Good Morning. What is God like?  If you want to know about His heart, then carefully read this chapter with me.  Three stories about something lost--all of which really grip me.
9/24/2009 9:58:19 PM
Selected Scripture Readings to DELIGHT you, and make your DAY ~ Deliberate about them, won't you? Good Morning. So, my friend, Pam, wrote back yesterday in reply to the Morning Briefing on the workings of the devil, the more subtle ways that he seeks to destr--tempting us with distraction, dissension, divisions, and the like. . .
9/24/2009 9:57:34 PM
Scripture Reading: please print this out--look up the Scripture references contained within.  Highlight or underline them in your Bibles.  Read. . . grow.  Be filled. Good Morning. When I used to go home to see my mom and dad, my mom often made a fried chicken dinner, complete with mashed potatoes and gravy; she baked a cherry pie because she knew it was my favorite.
9/24/2009 9:57:05 PM
Scripture Reading: John 14.1-6 Today's inspiration:  He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more. . . Revelation 21.4 Good Morning. This one's for you, J.J.J. ~ read, and be blessed. . . could you please send this to Jane? "Our Father who art in Heaven" ~ this was the start of the prayer Jesus taught the disciples to pray.
9/24/2009 9:56:34 PM
Good Morning. Some days I am more aware of God's grace than others. . . some days I feel in greater need of God's grace than other days. . . I thank God that the amount of grace He gives is not dependent on my need or even awareness of it on any given day.
9/24/2009 9:56:05 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 9.51-62 Today's inspiration: Come, follow Me. Luke 9.59 Good Morning. Two thousand years later, the message hasn't changed. . . two thousand years later, the Son of God looks in our eyes and into our hearts and the message hasn't changed. . . two thousand years later, it is still ours to respond to the simplicity of His invitation--Come, follow Me.
9/24/2009 9:55:47 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 9.46-50 Today's inspiration: Whatever is true. . .whatever is lovely, think on these things.
9/24/2009 9:55:18 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 9.37-45 Today's inspiration: And they were all amazed at the majesty of God Good Morning. Don't you think it is a little confusing? I mean, it seems like everywhere Jesus goes, the crowds find Him. . . people are clearly enthralled with Jesus.
9/24/2009 9:54:48 PM
Good Morning. Isn't it amazing how timely Scripture can seem to be? You know, you're going through something, you go to church, and the message is just exactly what you needed! You turn on Christian radio, and a Scripture passage is so applicable to your life. . . coincidence? Hardly.
9/24/2009 9:54:13 PM
Would you open your Bibles and read Luke 9, verses 18 - 20? There is nothing like turning the pages in Scripture to inspire you. . . Today's inspiration: "But who do you say that I am?" Good Morning. This changes everything. After spending time in prayer with His Father, Jesus poses a question to the disciples: "Who do the crowds say that I am?"
9/24/2009 9:53:42 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 9.1-17 Today's inspiration: You give them something to eat. Luke 9.13 Good Morning or Good Evening~ Whatever country you find yourself in today, I'm sure you've seen the coverage of Barack Obama's supporters rallying together and cheering wildly--particularly the footage shot in Chicago, where he gave his acceptance speech.
9/24/2009 9:53:08 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 8.40-56 Today's inspiration: Be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace Good Morning. Two stories. Two lives. Irrevocably changed. How then shall we live?
9/24/2009 9:52:37 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 8.26-39 Today's inspiration: "What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?" Before you read today's passage, ask God to speak to you from His Word.
9/24/2009 9:52:05 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 8.22-25 Today's inspiration: Luke 8.25 "Where's your faith?" Good Morning~ And I mean it is a right good morning. . . what a blessing to be back with you, dear ones! Thank you for your prayers; what a wacky, serious thing that cat scratch turned out to be--can you believe it? I'm almost good as new now though. God is good. . . in fact, that's just what I wanted to talk to you about.
9/24/2009 9:51:26 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 8.4-21 Today's inspiration: Luke 8.15 - But the seed on good soil stands for those with a noble and good heart, who hear the word, retain it, and by persevering produce a crop.
9/24/2009 9:50:49 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 8.1-3 Today's inspiration: I have come to bring life, abundant life. John 10.10 Good Morning. Yesterday, an immoral woman washed Jesus' feet with her hair--rather than Him becoming 'defiled' by her touch, she was the one who went away transformed. Jesus shattered all the mores of His time in His treatment of women~~yet another thing I love about Him!
9/24/2009 9:50:19 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 7.36-50 Today's inspiration: Your faith has saved you; go in peace. Good Morning. A provocative heading, wouldn't you say? Not without reason, because Jesus was a provocative individual, in the true sense of the word.
9/24/2009 9:49:45 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 7.18-35 Today's inspiration: Be my witnesses. Acts 1.8 Good Morning. Ours is a full passage today, and will take a little effort to digest. It helps to see its divisions: John's question to Jesus (v.18-23), Jesus' view of John-the-Baptist (v. 24-30), and summation of those who reject Him (v. 31-35).
9/24/2009 9:49:06 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 7.1-17 Today's inspiration: "Say the word and my servant will be healed" do you have that kind of faith? When the Lord saw her, His heart went out to her and He said, "Don't cry." Luke 7.13
9/24/2009 9:48:32 PM
Our Sponsor, God, would like to say a few things before we continue studying about His Son through the writing of Luke. My children, I know the way sometimes grows very rough for you.  It is during these times, that your choice of foundation becomes so very clear
9/24/2009 9:47:57 PM
Today's Scripture Reading:  MATTHEW 4.18-22; JOHN 1.43-51   Today's inspiration:  "Follow Me." Good Morning. 'I had heard about Him. . . well, after all, who hadn't?  John-the-Baptist had been telling everyone that the Messiah was born, and living among the people.  In fact, word had gotten around that one day out at the Jordan River, Jesus Himself had walked to the water's edge to be baptized by John.
9/24/2009 9:33:52 PM
Good Morning. He was a radical, but not the 60s kind. . . He was unpredictable--except for how He loved. . . He looked like an ordinary man, and yet He was an extraordinary God. . . and as for me, the further we get into Luke's gospel, the more I read about Him, and learn about His ways, the closer I feel to Him. . . and so I asked you to hit 'reply' and answer the question: What difference does Jesus make to you? Here is what some of you had to say~
9/22/2009 11:16:19 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 14.25-35 Good Morning! With Christmas behind us, we forge into the new year, ever mindful that Jesus is on His journey toward Jerusalem, teaching as He goes.  Regularly, someone asks me 'if' and 'if so, why?'
9/22/2009 11:12:59 PM
Good Morning. I wish I could have been there. . . I wonder when he first knew he was different. . . I wonder when he knew that he was God in a man's body. . . I wonder. . . if Joseph and Mary sat him down and told him about how the angel had announced his birth to the shepherds out in the country. . . I wonder what other kids thought about him, and when they realized that he was different from them. . .
9/22/2009 2:47:55 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 1.26-66 Today's inspiration: Luke 1.37 - Nothing is impossible with God. "Ave!" "Ave, Maria", the Latin term the angel Gabriel used meant "Greetings, Mary". So we have a second angelic visit by Gabriel in Luke 1--first to Zechariah, and now to sweet Mary.
9/22/2009 2:46:48 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 1.8-20 Today's inspiration: "I bring you good tidings of great joy that will be for all the people" Good Morning. You know the scene. . . the shepherds are outside watching their sheep, when suddenly an angel appears to them, surrounding them with the light of God's glory--no doubt, the sky just lit up--if any are dozing, they aren't any longer--they are scared!
9/22/2009 2:45:52 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 2.21-40 Today's inspiration: Luke 2.40 - and the grace of God was upon Him. Good Morning. I took my first trip to New York in 1990, and ventured into the garment district of Manhattan. It was about 4 p.m. and the shopkeepers were looking to close. . . I looked over my shoulder thinking, 'come on. what is your rush?'
9/22/2009 2:44:21 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 2.41-52 Today's Inspiration: Jesus increased in wisdom and in favor with God and man.  Luke 2.52 Good Morning. About ten years ago, my husband Dean and I were at Home Depot, (a huge construction retail supplier), picking out something for our home--struggling to make a decision about the type of widget we wanted. . . we turned around and discovered our three-year-old son, Dylan, was nowhere to be seen.
9/22/2009 2:43:26 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 2.1-20 Good Morning. Last year as I prepared a message for our annual Christmas brunch, I casually said to Dylan on the way to school one day, "What do you think I should talk about?"  "The inn, Mom--I think you should talk about how 'there was no room in the inn."
9/22/2009 2:42:46 PM
Luke 2.10 ~  I bring you good tidings of great joy. . . today. . . a Savior!! Christmas Greetings to you, dear friend~ I bring you good tidings of great joy this morning, from Jesus-- Dear child, maybe now that your preparations are through, you can make some quiet to be with Me. You will have to take the time, it won't just happen.
9/22/2009 2:42:05 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 3.21-38     Today's Inspiration:  "You are my beloved Son, and I am fully pleased with You."  Luke 3.22 Good Morning, Friends. Pictured is the Jordan River; just below the Sea of Galilee, (called "Bethany beyond Jordan"), it was where John-the-Baptist was preaching and baptizing people for the remission of their sins.
9/22/2009 2:40:27 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 4.1-13 Today's inspiration:  "Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted,  He is able to help those who are being tempted."  Hebrews 2.18 Good Morning, Friends. We left Jesus standing in the Jordan River, being exalted by God the Father, after His baptism.  When He walks away, Jesus is full of the Holy Spirit.
9/22/2009 2:39:32 PM
before you read today's passage in Luke 4, ask God to open your heart and mind to the truth of the Gospel, so that you may truly grasp who this Jesus is. . .  Scripture Reading:  Luke 4.14-30 Today's Inspiration:  He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty. . . Luke 4.18 Good Morning.   I am so excited to be launching into the three+ years of Jesus' ministry--to listen to His words, watch what He does. and see how He loves.
9/22/2009 2:38:37 PM
Stop reading!  Take a moment and ask God to give you wisdom, discernment and understanding as you read and consider today's Scripture. Today's Scripture:  Luke 4.31-44 Today's Inspiration:  Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.  Ephesians 6.10 Good Morning. We follow Jesus from Nazareth down to Capernaum, where He establishes a 'home base' for His ministry.  Jesus continues to be invited to teach in the synagogue on the sabbath
9/22/2009 2:36:38 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 5.1-16 Today's inspiration:  To Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine according to His power that is at work within us, to Him be glory. . .!  Ephesians 3.20 Good Morning. Do you like fishing?  'Not a lot of middle ground on that one--you either don't, or you probably really DO, so as to be an o-fish-ionado.
9/22/2009 2:35:45 PM
As you read God's Word today, ask Him to speak to you from it. . . Scripture Reading:  Luke 5.17-32 Today's Inspiration: Luke 5.31  It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. Good Morning. One thing I like about Jesus--His bold moves.  Another thing--People made bold moves when they were around Him!  In yesterday's study, we talked about the leper who was absolutely convinced that Jesus was able. . . able to do the miraculous, the impossible.
9/22/2009 2:34:23 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 5. 33-39   Today's inspiration: Good Morning. Do you get the sense that the Pharisees were always hanging around, looking to 'catch' Jesus or His followers doing something they shouldn't. . . or at least falling short of their Pharisaical laws?
9/22/2009 2:33:04 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.1-15 Today's inspiration:  Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy.  Exodus 20.8 Ah, the Sabbath. A day for the Jews?  A day most Christians barely esteem anymore?  I remember as a child that we kept the 'Lord's Day' a little differently than every other day of the week.
9/22/2009 2:31:55 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.17-26 Today's inspiration: Great is your reward in Heaven. Good Morning. I'm wondering how Jesus decided what He was going to teach on a given day. . . He came to establish a new way--we know this by His responses to the accusations of the Pharisees--on fasting, healing, and observing the Sabbath.
9/22/2009 2:30:46 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.27-36 Today's inspiration:  Do to others as you would have them do to you. Good Morning! This teaching is radical.  Jesus must have turned the hypocritical Pharisees on their ears with this next passage--one command after another, all starting with verbs--actions for us to take and make a way of life.
9/22/2009 2:30:01 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.37-42 Today's inspiration:  Give, and it will be given to you.  Luke 6.38 Good Morning. "Lord, won't  you open your Word to us, and our minds to it in such a way that we might understand and be changed by it?  Amen"
9/22/2009 2:28:14 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.43-45 Today's inspiration:  Every tree is known by its fruits.  Luke 6.44 Good Morning. I think that I shall never see       a poem lovely as a tree.      A tree whose hungry mouth is prest      against the earth's sweet lowing breast;       A tree that looks at God all day,      and lifts her leafy arms to pray;
9/22/2009 2:27:12 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 6.46-49 Today's inspiration: The wise man builds his house on the Rock. Good Morning. About fifteen years ago, we bought an old home that had been in foreclosure and was rather sad from neglect--especially the front yard.
9/22/2009 2:25:28 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 10.1-16 Today's inspiration: "Go! I am sending you. . ."  Luke 10.3 Good Morning. "Yes, something happens in wine country when Harvest begins…..We are all waiting and looking forward to the moment when the first grapes begin to come in, when all week long, from before dawn till past dark, the air has been filled with the usual din of harvest:
9/22/2009 2:24:32 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 10.25-37    Today's inspiration:  Love the Lord thy God with all your heart, all your soul,  all your strength, and all your mind.  And, love your neighbor as yourself Good Morning. The distance from Jerusalem to Jericho is about seventeen miles.  There is a sharp descent near the Jordan River just north of the Dead Sea.  In the first century, the road curved through rugged, rocky terrain where bandits could easily hide, making it especially dangerous.
9/22/2009 2:23:43 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 10.38-42 Today's inspiration:  "You are worried and upset about many things, but only     one thing is needed. . .Come to Me, and I will give you rest"            Luke 10.41-42; Matthew 11.28 Good Morning. It was about 4 o'clock in the afternoon when my phone rang.  The Voice on the other side was tense, emotional, and needed some direction.
9/22/2009 2:23:05 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 10.38-42 Today's inspiration:  Exodus 20.8  Remember the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. Good Morning. When God separated the night from the day, it was good; approximately half the day to work, play, and get ahead during the light, and the remainder for family and rest after dark.
9/22/2009 2:21:04 PM
Scripture Reading: Luke 11.1-13   Today's inspiration:  "Ask and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find;  knock, and the door will be opened to you."  Lk. 11.9 Good Morning. Luke does a masterful job painting the portrait of a devoted Son for His Father.  Praying was an integral part of Jesus' life, and Luke, more than the other gospel writers, captures the priority Jesus places on prayer.
9/22/2009 2:20:01 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 11.14-28 Today's inspiration:  Luke 11.28 "blessed are all who hear the Word of God and put it into practice." Good Morning. Ah. . . after a long weekend filled with food, family, friends, and more food, I'm anxious to get back into the food of God's Word.  I pray you are well.
9/22/2009 2:18:38 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 11.29-36  "Do you read these passages listed at the top of each Morning Briefing?  God's Word is meant to be read,  to be studied so as to understand, and then to be devoured-  Someone asked me what to do with these dailies. . .          PRINT them out.  Ask God for understanding of His Word, then READ the Scripture. READ my commentary.          APPLY where you are able."  Guaranteed growth if your heart has good soil.
9/22/2009 2:17:32 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 11.37-53 Today's inspiration:  Be still, and know. . . I. . .am. . . God.  Psalm 46.10 Good Morning. 'Tis the season--have you noticed?  This last Sunday was the first Sunday of advent. . . Advent reminds me that it is time to prepare my heart for Jesus.
9/22/2009 2:16:51 PM
Scripture Reading:  Luke 12.1-12 Today's inspiration:  The very hairs of your head are numbered  Luke 12.7 Good Morning.
