Psalm 100 on ‘Thanks giving’
May God Bless You this day and may you bless God as well. Many folks will gather with family and enjoy traditional foods together … how wonderful! Perhaps someone can take the time to read this beautiful psalm of David before you partake:
Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth!?
Worship the Lord with gladness.?
Come before him, singing with joy.?
Acknowledge that the Lord is God!?
He made us, and we are his.?
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.?
Enter his gates with thanksgiving;?
go into his courts with praise.?
Give thanks to him and praise his name.?
For the Lord is good.?
His unfailing love continues forever,?
and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
Then again, perhaps you find yourself far away from home this year, like my brother Francis, who just came to America from Nigeria, called to start a church in New York City. Francis can still pray the psalm aloud, which is a great thing to do! There is a different opportunity to participate in this same beautiful psalm … personally praying just what David sung to the Lord.
Indeed, take the psalm, line by line, savor it, and pray it to your God. Truly~ worship him as your God, the one who created you … the one to whom you belong. It is just you, entering into his magnificent heavenly gates, praising the one who knows all about you and loves you.
Thanksgiving Day is the day set aside to give thanks to God. Go crazy then, thanking him for all you have taken for granted—your gift of eyesight and hearing, food, clothing, water, housing, the gift of touch, taste, laughter, creativity, emotion, beauty, music, art, friendship, family members, prayer, family traditions, freedom, God’s Word, Heaven!, nature … think of what you enjoy – thank God for it. Think of things you have experienced – thank God for them.
Now thank we all our God with hearts and minds and voices, Amen.
