It'll change your life

Please Remain Seated.  Matthew 27.61

It’ll change your life … remaining seated a while, I mean.

But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.

How did I miss it?  How have I studied and written about Jesus’ burial and missed this verse?  But Mary Magdalene and the other Mary remained sitting there, facing the tomb.1 Probably because it is not natural for me to remain sitting—at least not like this.

What’s happening in this scene?  The men, Joseph and Nicodemus, have requested and been given Jesus’ body to prepare for burial and place in the tomb.  Read Matthew 27.62-66 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+27.62-66&version=NLT&interface=print

I know Jesus was dead—his spirit not present—but my eyes fill with tears as I think of Jesus’ mistreatment and now total aloneness in the tomb.  The men have turned and gone home after a very long grievous day.

But two did not go home.  In the quiet darkness, two remained with Jesus.  There is a simple, but very loud message for us to take from the two Mary’s who sat outside Jesus’ tomb.

Remaining with Jesus is what we are purposed to do.2

Being in his presence is where we gain all the organic material we need for life!

Two jobs to fulfill today:  believing in Jesus, and remaining in him.

Remaining with Jesus is where life is . . . where we find strength for today!3

Jesus is all we need, but we do have to stop, get alone, and

choose to remain seated with him for a while.

Be still, and know. ………………………………..I am God.. ……………. Psalm 46.10

                                                      Sometimes it’s just so simple.
