It is time to earnestly pray for our country-to pray that hatred would be turned toward healing of broken hearts and minds. Friend, this is about you, about me; it is for our children and grandchildren, for the generations to come. Read this prayer and consider its humble words; share this prayer with others and continue to pray it yourself.

Dear Heavenly Father, Maker of Heaven and Earth,

O God, how your heart must break after another mass shooting ... another atrocity on American soil, perpetrated by one human being against others. What can be done?  What can I do?   Naturally, people are worried and casting about, so I know that we must pray as never before!  But first, I remember my starting point-
'You are God; it is you who made us,
and not we ourselves; we are your people.'
You are God.  You are good, your love does not end,
and you will not forget our children either!
As the psalmist sang, "For the Lord is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations."2

We lift our country before you, shattered in the wake of evil deeds that have killed and maimed. God, we pray that the people of Sutherland Springs, Texas, may feel your great love!  Wring goodness out of evil as only you can, dear Jesus. May our citizens seek you, and turn from hatred and destruction.
I think of one who looked to you and said, "This I recall to my mind, therefore I have hope.
Through the Lord's mercies we are not consumed,
               because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness."
Yes, dear Lord, you are faithful, and on that we stand!

God, we too want to pray confidently for your steadfast love and mercy to us - in all areas of our lives.  Please, God,
Draw hearts and minds to your truth and great love.                          May we seek You - someone higher than ourselves.                          May our leaders - our president, senate and congress, governors and            mayors be humbled and turn to you.                                      May teachers in our elementary and high schools bow their knees to            you; may professors and chancellors be humbled with an
awareness that you alone are God, not academia.
                                         God, save our country.

Lord, as believers in you, increase our faith in you because
You are the God on the throne.
'You cause all things to work together for good to those who love you;'
increase our love for you, and indeed show us how to love you more!

You are perfect, your ways are perfect and we want to live in accordance with your will.  Grant us your wisdom in conducting ourselves with love, honor and respect to friends, colleagues, neighbors and others, O God.  We wish to honor you in the way we live.

We pray these things in the powerful, mighty name of Jesus,  AMEN.  So be it.
